IEC 61511 Applications Practice Administrative Training

This six (6) hour presentation provides personnel that have direct responsibility or support for safety instrumented systems (SIS's) the Company’s expectation of administrative process safety management (PSM) requirements. This presentation will show how PSM requirements can be achieved through application of the Company’s PSM risk identification, assessment and management program along with the “IEC 61511 Application Practice”. Focus areas for this training include:

  • Discussion of the relationship between the “IEC 61511 Application Practice” and OSHA 1910.119
  • How to implement RAGAGEP using “IEC 61511 Application Practice” procedures
  • Approval requirements for new SISs
  • Approval requirements for modifications to SISs
  • Responsibility for bypass administration
  • Some basic knowledge of acceptable hardware and techniques
  • SIS audit requirements

IEC 61511 Applications Practice Detailed Implementation Training

This eight (8) hour workshop provides instruction in the use of the “IEC 61511 Application Practice” in designing and/or evaluating the safety integrity level (SIL) of a safety instrumented system (SIS). An overview of the “IEC 61511 Application Practice” will be presented with special emphasis on general design considerations and system architecture requirements. Participants will perform hands on development of safety instrumented function (SIF) fault trees and SIL determination calculations. Focus areas for this training include:

  • Develop ability to recognize appropriate process design information for implementation of a SIF
  • Become aware of design/implementation requirements for a SIF implemented in accordance with “IEC 61511 Application Practice” guidelines
  • Develop the ability to create a fault tree of a SIF to determine its SIL
