This training is for the application of pressure relief devices (PRDs) on ASME pressure vessels, API / UL storage tanks, and ancillary equipment in process and steam applications. The training is based on API and ASME Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEPs) that are applicable to this equipment.
Note, explosion relief protection in solids handling applications is beyond the scope of this training.
This three (3) day presentation provides a review of:
- Applicable RAGAGEPs and industry best practices.
- Definitions, terminology, and acronyms associated with overpressure relief systems.
- Presentation of PRD design and specification including the types of equipment used and how the equipment functions for pressure vessel and atmospheric storage tank applications.
- Discussion of over pressure and vacuum relief scenarios.
- Documentation requirements and methods to meet OSHA 1910.119 process safety information requirements.
- Calculation methods to size and select the proper orifice for ASME/API relief devices for:
- Gas or vapor flow
- Steam flow
- Liquids
- Calculation methods to size relief devices for atmospheric storage tanks.
- Considerations for sizing rupture disks.
- Information necessary for purchasing and installing PRDs.
- Information about operation, maintenance, and inspection of PRDs.
- Attendees take an active role in the course, evaluating realistic systems to determine when a pressure relief device is required, complete scenario checklists, perform relief device sizing calculations for multiple different scenarios, and generate the information required to complete a process safety information file. Multiple tests are administered throughout the course as well.
Target Personnel:
- Process engineers developing overpressure scenario information.
- Engineers and/or management responsible for documentation, specification, and inspection of PRDs.
